Maximizing Efficiency and Safety with the Proper Dump Truck Tires

M

Dump truck tires operating in short to medium distances and in complex conditions require careful consideration. Choosing the right tire for your vehicle can save you time and money. Here are some tips to help you select the best tire for your dump truck.

Tire Pattern Selection for Dump Trucks

For internal transportation of coal mines, stone factories, and transportation from factories and mines to coal yards and construction sites, roads are typically mixed with stone and paved roads with medium slopes. Vehicles are overloaded, and the transportation distance is typically within 100 kilometers. For this usage scenario, we recommend using tires with small tread blocks that have good heat dissipation and grip. The tread depth should be increased to resist puncture and wear. Additionally, reinforced tires with the ability to overload and resist explosions should be used.

For short-distance transportation of iron ore, coal mines, and stone material yards, the road conditions are extremely bad with small stone roads, overloaded vehicles, and typical usage conditions such as short-distance transportation from iron ore mining areas to beneficiation plants, with medium speeds and a transportation distance of within 50 kilometers. We recommend using tires with medium-sized tread patterns with good grip and heat dissipation. Additionally, reinforced tires with the ability to overload and resist explosions should be used, and the tire face adhesive should resist block dispersion.

For short-distance transportation of iron ore and various hard ore mines, driving on extremely bad and potholed roads, overloaded vehicles, and in extreme overload conditions such as the transportation of ore from the mine to outside, with slow speeds and a transportation distance of within 30 kilometers, we recommend using dump truck tires with a strong body material that can resist impact and not burst. The tire face adhesive formula should also be good enough to resist tearing and block dispersion.

Dump Truck Tire Inspection and Maintenance

Mining dump trucks often work in double or triple shifts. To ensure the optimal performance of your tires, the driver or vehicle maintenance personnel should check the tire pressure of all tires once a week, preferably before the shift begins. Serious air leakage occurs when the tire pressure is lower than 20% of the normal tire pressure. If air leakage is detected, promptly check for punctures or other causes and repair them as soon as possible. If there is only a shortage of air, fill it in time to reach the normal air pressure. In winter, tire pressure decreases due to temperature changes, and proper inflating should be carried out. Low tire pressure increases fuel consumption and accelerates abnormal tire wear, which is not conducive to safe driving. High tire pressure affects grip, especially the braking performance of the vehicle.

Insufficient tire inflation can cause abnormal tire deformation and excessive flexion, leading to a shorter tire lifespan, heat buildup, uneven wear, and punctures on the tire’s sides. On the other hand, high tire pressure can cause tire crown wear, cracks, and punctures on the tire’s surface, and even tire explosions. In the tire industry, the adage “Air pressure is the life of a tire” emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining proper tire pressure to ensure a tire’s longevity.
